The film revolves around Siva (Dhanush), an engineering college student, who belongs to a very rich family. On a turn of events, when he helps his cousin girl get married with her boyfriend on the day of marriage, he is chased out of house. Dhanush happens to kidnap Genelia from her marriage after he mistakes for another woman. Incidentally even Genelia is trying to escape from the marriage since she is being forcebly married off to her cousin by her uncle so that he can get hold on her property. Now Dhanush takes her to his house and she gets close to him and they fall in love. But before the interval, Genelia is kidnapped by his uncle. The rest of the story in on how Dhanush can manage to save Genelia from her two uncles.
Finding faults with Uthamaputhiran will be difficult. One feels that with the given plot, premise and resources, Mithran Jawahar has delivered the best possible results. Yes, there is a feeling that 3 hours is a tad too long; that the climax is a bit sugar coated, that certain portions could have been avoided (like the Spiderman bit) and such minor things. But, the final product stands above all these glitches.
As on whole, ‘Uthama Puthiran’ proves to be an excellent entertainer for this season and we recommend this film strongly for the family audiences.
